Caring for Your Oxford Shirt

Our Oxford shirt is made from durable cotton Oxford cloth that gets softer and more comfortable with every wash. With the right care, it will keep its shape, color, and crisp look for years.

Before Washing

• Unbutton all buttons, including the collar buttons and cuffs, to prevent strain on the buttonholes and fabric
• Turn the shirt inside out to protect the color and surface of the fabric
• Treat any stains before washing (see Stain Care below)
• Check the pockets

Washing

• Machine wash cold or warm (30–40°C / 86–104°F)
• Wash with similar colors; wash whites separately
• Use a gentle or normal cycle with a mild detergent
• Avoid overloading the machine so the shirt can move freely and rinse clean
• Do not use chlorine bleach. For white shirts, an oxygen-based (non-chlorine) bleach can be used occasionally to keep them bright
• Hand washing in cool water is also suitable

Drying

• For best results, hang to dry on a sturdy hanger, buttoning the top button to hold the collar's shape
• If using a dryer, tumble dry on low heat and remove while slightly damp
• Avoid high heat, which can cause shrinkage and weaken cotton fibers over time
• Avoid drying in strong direct sunlight for long periods, as it may fade colors

Ironing

• Iron on medium-high heat (cotton setting) while the shirt is still slightly damp, or use steam
• Start with the collar, then the cuffs, sleeves, back, and front panels
• Iron the collar from the points inward to prevent creasing at the tips
• Iron around the buttons, never over them
• For a relaxed, casual look, Oxford cloth can also be worn un-ironed; simply smooth it out by hand while damp

Stain Care

• Treat stains as soon as possible
• Blot, don't rub, to avoid spreading the stain or roughing up the fabric
• Pre-treat collars and cuffs with a small amount of liquid detergent to remove everyday build-up
• Rinse fresh stains with cold water; hot water can set protein stains like sweat or food

Storage

• Hang on a wide or shaped hanger to maintain the shoulder line
• Button the top and middle buttons to keep the shirt in shape
• Give your shirts room in the closet to prevent wrinkles
• For travel, fold neatly or roll to minimize creasing

Good to Know

• Cotton may shrink slightly (up to about 2–3%) after the first few washes, especially with heat
• Like all quality cotton, the fabric will soften and develop natural character over time
• Do not dry clean; gentle home washing is kinder to cotton fibers
• Washing less often and airing the shirt out between wears helps extend its life
