Denim Jacket Care

Denim improves with age, provided you treat it well. A few simple habits will keep your jacket's colour, shape, and character for years.

Wash rarely
Denim doesn't need frequent washing. Two or three washes a year is enough for most jackets. Each wash pulls colour from the fibres, so the less often you wash, the longer your jacket keeps its depth and richness.

Wash cold, inside out
Turn the jacket inside out before washing. Use cold water on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Avoid fabric softener — it coats the cotton and dulls the finish.

Never tumble dry
Heat shrinks cotton and wears down hems and cuffs. Hang your jacket to dry away from direct sunlight, and reshape the shoulders and cuffs while the fabric is still damp.

Spot-clean between washes
Most marks lift with a damp cloth and cold water. Work gently from the outside of the mark inward.

Air it out
Hanging your jacket in fresh air for a few hours refreshes it without water. This alone will extend the time between washes considerably.

Store on a hanger
Use a wide hanger and give it room. Folded denim sets permanent creases along the fold lines.
